How to Care for Your Opal

Opals are one of nature's most beautiful gemstones, and with the right care, they will retain their brilliance for a lifetime. Please follow the simple guidelines below to keep your opal jewellery looking its best.

Triplet & Doublet Opals — Keep Away from Water

Triplet and doublet opals are crafted from layers of natural opal bonded together. Frequent exposure to water — especially hot water — can cause these layers to separate over time, resulting in a cloudy or fogged appearance. We recommend removing your triplet or doublet opal jewellery before showering, swimming, or washing up.

Solid Opals — Avoid Jewellery Cleaning Solutions

Solid opals should not be cleaned with general jewellery cleaning products unless the solution is specifically formulated for opals. Many standard cleaning solutions contain chemicals that can dull or damage the opal's surface. To clean a solid opal, simply wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth.

All opal types are sensitive to sudden temperature changes and prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Avoid leaving your opal jewellery in direct sunlight for extended periods, or near heat sources such as ovens, hair dryers, or open flames.
